3 British Literature College Credits
CLASS DAYS/TIME:
Tuesdays, 3:00 – 3:50 PM EST, August – April (Calendar)
SYNOPSIS:
British Literature includes this:
- British Literature Readings. These include the great British works Beowulf, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Macbeth, and Pilgrim’s Progress. In addition, students read many key British short stories, poems, and essays: edifying, instructive, and entertaining selections that demonstrate aspects of British history and culture. Students also read two classic British novels: Jane Eyre and Great Expectations. Discussions include literary elements such as theme, plot, character, setting, metaphor, irony, symbolism, tone, and style. The sometimes humanistic worldviews of the authors are compared with a Christian worldview.
- Composition. Topics include a satirical essay on a modern topic, a character sketch, news articles, and a British Literature essay analysis project with citations, written in MLA format. Students receive detailed corrections on their essays, with the benefit of Scott Clifton’s degree in journalism and his writing and editing experience.
