What Home School Partners Offers
Home School Partners offers weekly English and History enrichment classes for homeschooling families with high school students. Students meet one day per week, then work at home on assignments and readings so we can discuss them the following week.
Students in HSP classes earn college credits for their English and History classes!
See this page for more info.
The 2024-25 year marks HSP’s 23nd year of offering home school classes. All in-person high school classes run for 32 weeks from August through late April/early May. (Online classes run for 16 or 31 weeks.) Registration is now open for all returning and new students.
Scott Clifton, Owner/Instructor
I’m Scott Clifton, and I teach classes at Home School Partners. I was born again through faith in Jesus Christ, and I’m thankful to the Lord for being faithful to me when I’ve fallen short so many times since. I’ve been married since 1990 to my wife Julie and have six high school graduates (and one still being homeschooled!). Julie and I have homeschooled our children since the 1990s.
In high school I was a member of the National Honor Society, receiving a full, four-year academic scholarship to the University of Central Florida (I earned my B. A. in 1991).
I started my career writing and editing for a family newspaper and a state banking association. After that I taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and English in the public and private school systems.
As a young man, I lived in Wake Forest and worked for two summers at Camp Rockmont in Black Mountain. In 1985, as a teenager, I was captured by the Russians and exiled to the sweltering heat of Central Florida. In May 2007, however, my family and I managed to escape in a hot air balloon to North Carolina. (Just a little joke there. It was actually a U-Haul truck.)
How the Classes Work
Home School Partners offers one-day-per-week high-school level enrichment classes and academic elective classes for home schooled teens. The classes meet from August to late April/early May and include at-home assignments (students do these on an online system called Canvas) for the rest of the week. I teach all classes from a Christian worldview, while making students aware of other worldviews.
Freshmen and sophomores are (generally) in the same class (usually, but it doesn’t matter; I’ve had classes with kids from ages 12 to 18 together), and juniors and seniors are (again, generally) in the same class. The classes rotate every other year, so a “9th grader” starting at HSP can take four years of four totally different class sets!
Home School Partners classes are designed to be challenging and interesting. The emphasis is in two main areas:
- presenting various subjects to emphasize a Christian worldview, personal liberty, and limited government
- leading students to further develop their ability to think for themselves and to discover God’s truth
